Shillong: A proposal for the release of a series of commemorative postage stamps showcasing the rich heritage, culture and unique identity of Arunachal Pradesh was discussed during a meeting between the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik, and Brajesh Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle, in Shillong, today.
The proposed stamps are expected to highlight the State’s indigenous tribes, traditions and culture, heritage sites, flora and fauna, GI-tagged indigenous products, and handicrafts.
During the meeting, Brajesh Kumar briefed the Governor on the process and approval mechanism for the issuance of commemorative postage stamps by the Department of Posts. He also presented the Governor with a Postage Stamp Album and a book titled- Journey of India through Philately. The initiative seeks to celebrate and preserve the cultural and natural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh through philately.
Observing that philately serves as an effective medium for preserving heritage and creating public awareness, the Governor noted that such initiatives would help showcase Arunachal Pradesh’s distinctive identity and rich legacy to a wider audience, both within the country and abroad.
The Governor appreciated the proposal and he expressed his desire to see the State find a place in the history of the Department of Posts through the issuance of commemorative postage stamps.The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Department of Posts.
