World Environment Day 2026 observed at Chandel

Chandel: In observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Chandel Forest Division organised a Tree Plantation Programme at St. Peter Higher Secondary School, Monsang Pantha, Chandel today under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0.”

Dr. S.S. Olish, Hon’ble MLA of 41-Chandel Assembly Constituency, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, Hemant Kumar, IAS and N. Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer attended the programme and participated in the plantation drive.

The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, increasing green cover and encouraging public participation in safeguarding nature for future generations. The initiative also reflected the spirit of the campaign, which calls upon citizens to plant and nurture trees as a tribute to their mothers while contributing to climate action and ecological sustainability.

District Level Officers,students, teachers, officials of the Forest Department and members of the local community also participated in the plantation drive. Various saplings were planted within the school campus and surrounding areas including St. Paul school, Komlakhong and 21 Assam Rifles, Modi Village Chandel. All together 15,000 (fifteen thousand) trees saplings were aimed to be planted today to mark the observation.
