DC Pooja Elangbam inaugurates Ramsar signage at IWT complex, Phubala

Bishnupur: As part of the observance of World Environment Day 2026, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam today inaugurated the Ramsar Signage at the IWT Complex, Phubala in Bishnupur District, followed by a tree plantation drive. 

The programme was organised by the Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Manipur, in collaboration with the Loktak View Point Development Organisation, Phubala, under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” and campaign message #NowForClimate.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, DC Pooja Elangbam, stated that this year’s campaign highlights the urgent need to scale up climate solutions, restore degraded ecosystems, and accelerate the transition towards greener and more sustainable economies.

She noted that the message carries special significance for Bishnupur, a district blessed with rich biodiversity, rivers, and wetlands that sustain both the environment and local livelihoods.

Highlighting the importance of Loktak Lake, she described it as the ecological lifeline of Manipur and the largest freshwater wetland in Northeast India, playing a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting the socio-economic well-being of thousands of people.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon all stakeholders to work collectively towards building a healthier and more resilient future. She urged the people to draw inspiration from nature and translate that inspiration into meaningful action by protecting forests, conserving wetlands, restoring ecosystems, and adopting sustainable lifestyles.

Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, Ksh. Ravikumar, attended the programme as the Guest of Honour, while Project Director, Loktak Development Authority, H. Balkrishna Singh, presided over the function as President.

LDA officials, environmental enthusiasts, CSO representatives also attended the program.
