Imphal: Stepping up to fortify rural health ahead of the impending rainy season, Assam Rifles spearheaded a comprehensive ‘Shramdaan’ drive under the aegis of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Imphal West district today. The initiative broke away from routine clean-up exercises by focusing on critical pre-monsoon preventive sanitation, improving public hygiene and generating vital environmental awareness among the local population.
A joint force of 50 participants, bringing together Assam Rifles personnel and local volunteers including village elders and youth, combined strengths to tackle vulnerable spots. The team carried out extensive clearance of clogged drainage systems to prevent waterlogging, removed plastic waste, sanitised public spaces and beautified the village surroundings to mitigate the spread of seasonal diseases.
Alongside the physical clean-up, an awareness interaction highlighted sustainable waste management practices and long-term behavioural changes needed for environmental protection. The local residents expressed profound gratitude for this timely support, noting how such collaborative efforts foster deeper mutual trust. Concluding on a high note, the event saw all participants take a collective pledge to maintain regular upkeep of their surroundings, cementing a shared responsibility for a healthier, cleaner environment.
