Imphal: Standing true to its rich traditions of valor and unyielding commitment to the nation, the Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath-laying ceremony today at Veng, Churachandpur, to honor the memory of Havildar (Late) Rithe Tamang of the 5 Assam Rifles.
On this exact day in 1955, Havildar Rithe Tamang made the supreme sacrifice while leading operations against hostiles in the rugged terrain of the Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh. Over seven decades later, his exceptional courage, tactical resolve and ultimate devotion to duty continue to serve as a foundational pillar of inspiration for the force.
The memorial event, held at the Unit Quarter Guard, was conducted with a high degree of military discipline and precision. A total of 154 personnel gathered to pay their respects, according a formal Guard of Honour to the fallen braveheart.
The ceremony concluded with a motivational talk delivered to the troops, emphasizing how Havildar Tamang’s legacy of placing “Nation Before Self” remains central to the ongoing mission of safeguarding the Northeast. The force reaffirmed that the sacrifices of its martyrs will forever be preserved with the highest standards of honor and pride.
