Kamjong: A one-day awareness programme on HIV/AIDS for members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) was held today at TNZL Hall, Kamjong.
The programme was organised by the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), Kamjong in collaboration with the Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) with the objective of creating awareness on HIV/AIDS and promoting early detection and prevention. Altogether around 75 SHG members participated in the programme.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kamjong, Dr. Leishiwon attended the programme as the Resource Person and delivered an informative session on HIV/AIDS awareness, modes of transmission, preventive measures, importance of early detection, available treatment facilities and the need to remove stigma associated with the disease.
A short address was also delivered by Block Mission Manager (BMM), MSRLM Kamjong BlockK. Thotngamla, who encouraged SHG members to create awareness at the community level and not hesitate to undergo testing for early detection.
As part of the programme, HIV testing and counselling services were also provided to the participants by MACS Counsellor, OST Nurse Jeremy Shadang, Data Manager (MACS) and Treatment Supporter Leiyaso Shadang (MNP+).
