Imphal: In a major milestone for regional capacity building, 354 newly inducted recruits which also include 09 women, reported to the Headquarters of 165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home & Hearth) ASSAM, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), at Imphal in Imphal West district on 17 May 2026. This high reporting turnout highlights the profound commitment and enthusiastic readiness of local youth to serve the nation.

The rigorous selection process commenced with recruitment rallies conducted across three districts of Manipur (Noney, Churachandpur and Imphal) from November to December 2025 which covered the hills as well as valley districts of Manipur, ensuring youths from all communities and regions get equal opportunity to participate in the recruitment process. These competitive rallies attracted an overwhelming response of 8,849 aspirants, including 654 women candidates vying for 360 vacancies (including nine vacancies for women). Following stringent evaluation process, over 1,000 men and 57 women were declared physically fit. The subsequent written examination was cleared by 552 men and 49 women, culminating in a final merit list of 356 candidates, including nine women selected as results declared on 03 March 2026.

These selected recruits have now commenced their initial one-month recruit training at the unit on 18 May 2026. Post recruit training at unit, the newly enrolled recruits will further proceed to Regimental Training Centre at Shillong, Meghalaya for a period of six months for their intensive Basic Military training commencing wef 01 July 2026, preparing them for future national responsibilities. By providing secure and gainful employment in a worthy cause, this landmark initiative successfully channels youth energy towards constructive nation-building.
