Kakching: An anti-drug awareness program for students of Padma Ratna English School was organised today by the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Kakching under the overall supervision of the District Administration Kakching.

The program focused on the theme of Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions. As part of the campaign, awareness was raised on the health hazards associated with tobacco consumption & substance abuse, prohibition of tobacco use within educational premises, and ban on sale of tobacco products around educational institutions within a 100-yard radius.

Officials also informed that a similar awareness program had earlier been conducted at Kakching Higher Secondary School as part of ongoing efforts to promote a drug-free and tobacco-free educational environment.

It may be mentioned that the initiative reflects the objectives of the District Level Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) mechanism, which aims to strengthen coordination among district administration, police, education, health and other concerned departments in tackling drug abuse and substance-related issues.

District Level NCORD committees also focus on awareness campaigns, monitoring of substance abuse, create supportive environments for rehabilitation and community participation in creating drug-free educational institutions and societies. (DIO)
