Imphal: Assam Rifles organised a series of Mother’s Day celebrations on 09 and 10 May 2026 across Tengnoupal, Pallel, and Kamjong districts, fostering a spirit of harmony and mutual trust. In the border townships of Modi, Pallel, Moreh, and Tengnoupal, the events drew 220 local ladies and 90 students. This diverse gathering included 65 Naga women, 85 Meitei women as the Meira Paibis, and 70 Kuki women, providing a vital platform for cross-community engagement. The programme featured interactive sessions on women’s empowerment, healthcare, and social progress, complemented by recreational activities like Tambola. These interactions bridged cultural divides, culminating in a community lunch and a movie screening that reinforced the social fabric of the region.

The spirit of the occasion was further highlighted in Kamjong District, where Assam Rifles celebrated the day with Mrs Olina Ningshen of Kangpat Khunou village. Her presence was particularly poignant following her abduction by KNA (B) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone (VVEZ) militants from Namlee on 08 May 2026. Through concerted efforts and a swift operation by Assam Rifles, she was successfully rescued and released south of Z Choro village on 09 May 2026. Following her rescue, she was provided with essential medical and psychological assistance before being formally handed over to her family at the Chassad unit headquarters. Marking this triumph of safety, 45 personnel visited her home on Mother’s Day to present gifts and essentials. The exchange of tokens of gratitude between the villagers and Assam Rifles underscored a deep-seated bond of protection and empathy. These initiatives reflect a nuanced approach to regional stability, where the celebration of maternal contributions serves as a catalyst for inclusive participation and enduring peace in the border areas.
