Senapati: The 45th World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed today in alignment with 100 days Campaign of Jan- Jan Ka Rakhe Dhyaan TB- Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan today at CMO, Conference Hall, Old District Hospital, Senapati.
The programme was organised by District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC) under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) of the District Health Society, Senapati under the theme ‘Yes! We Can End TB. Led by Bharat. Powered by Janbhagari.’
The programme was graced by Dr. Sumpi Percy, Chief Medical Officer, Senapati and Dr. Helen Shimray, Medical Superintendent District Hospital, Senapati as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sumpi Percy stated that World TB Day is observed annually to spread awareness on active intervention in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB). The CMO highlighted on the government’s “Jan-Jan” initiative—a mission to make India TB-free through individual and community accountability. She also emphasized that overcoming the disease requires the same level of vigilance and care families provide to their children.
​She also addressed on the danger of Latent TB in compared to active TB symptoms, combatting Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) and grassroots integration by urging Medical Officers to ensure at every PHC with TB services- making screening as routine as testing for hypertension and diabetes toward ending TB testing.
​She applauded the Community Health Officers (CHOs), and ASHA workers, noting that their partnership has already seen significant success in case identification. The CMO further urged the community leaders and CSOs to mobilize it to the communities to end TB is to strengthen our health system, and encourages anyone experiencing a persistent cough or unexplained fever to visit their nearest health facility for free screening.
Dr. Helen Shimray in her Guest of Honour speech emphasized on the collective effort between medical department and civil society. She lauded ASHA workers TB felicitators for their outstanding work in screening and mapping the vulnerable population. She also urged the CSOs and various department for collaboration on screening and treatment initiatives. She also proposed moving future sessions to the District Hospital Conference Hall to maximize participation and training for district doctors.
Earlier, Dr. L. Muanching, District Tuberculosis Officer, Senapati delivered the welcome address, tracing the evolution of India’s such as NTP, RNTP and others to the current elimination strategies.
As part of the programme, TB Champion shared their Testimony on overcoming the disease. The programme concluded with an Awards were handed to various Primary Health Centres and Health and Wellness Centres PHSC for their exceptional performance in Ni- kshay portal entries.
The programme was attended by District Level Officers, Medical Officers, representatives from Civil Society Organisations and frontline workers.
