Imphal: Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, reaffirmed that the Meiteis of the State are Manipuri-Meiteis, the Nagas of the state are Manipuri-Nagas, the Kukis are Manipuri-Kukis and the Meitei Pangals are Manipuri- Meitei Pangals. He added that the very idea of Manipur is founded on the unity and coexistence of diverse communities.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the above statement while attending the “Commemoration of Kangla Attack” (Anglo Manipur War-1891) held at Bir Tikendrajit Park (Pheidabung), Imphal today.
While addressing the gathering, Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh recalled that, during different phases of Manipur’s history, the thirty-six communities have been living together and protecting the integrity of the state. He emphasised that we should uphold the values of oneness and unity for a peaceful and a developed State.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister stressed that unity is strength, and urged all to preserve and instil the sense of unity among ourselves.
The Chief Minister led other dignitaries in paying floral tributes and a 2 minutes silence was also observed condoling the martyrs, freedom fighters and unsung heroes.
The function organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War-1891 Martyr & Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) was attended by representatives of various communities within and outside the State, and students among others.
