Shillong: The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, North Eastern Regional Office, Guwahati, along with India Tourism Shillong, successfully organised the Tourism Education Expo & Dekho Apna Desh (DAD) Brochure Contest Prize Distribution Ceremony today in association with Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Shillong.
Students from Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya across the state actively participated in the programme. The programme witnessed enthusiastic involvement from nearly 303 students representing various Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and other senior secondary schools.
The event was graced by Dr. R. K. Suman, Deputy Director General & Regional Director (North East), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; Phira P. Lyngdoh, Information and Publicity Officer, Meghalaya Tourism; E.B. Blah, President, Tour Operators Association of Meghalaya; Smt. Balabynta Kharshiing, Principal, IHM Shillong; and Gaurav Sharma, General Manager, Vivanta by Taj.
During the ceremony, winners of the brochure-making competition were awarded certificates and prizes in recognition of their creativity and outstanding performance. Students from nearby schools also participated in Drawing and Quiz Competitions focused on Northeast tourism and culture.
The programme sought to inspire young minds to explore, document and present the tourism potential of their respective districts, while fostering a sense of pride and responsibility towards India’s rich cultural and natural heritage. It also aimed to create awareness about the tourism and hospitality sector among school students and encourage them to explore the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry.
