Jiribam celebrates International Women’s Day

Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar emphasized that International Women’s Day, along with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme, aims to safeguard girl children and ensure their welfare and a brighter future.

Jiribam: International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Saturday at the DC Office Complex, Jiribam, with Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar as the Chief Guest.

The event was attended by Shanti Devi, Caretaker Councilor of Jiribam Municipal Council; SDO Jiribam Laishram Roshan; Zonal Education Officer Th. Amurashi Devi; EO, JMC M. Surjit Singh; Sub-Deputy Collectors; CDPO ICDS; DCPO; DLOs; ASHA workers; Anganwadi workers; and other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar emphasized that International Women’s Day, along with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme, aims to safeguard girl children and ensure their welfare and a brighter future. He stated that the initiative targets young girls, adolescents, married women, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, educational institutions, government organizations, NGOs, and media.

He also highlighted the crucial role of the media in spreading awareness, stressing that knowledge of constitutional rights is essential for people to access the benefits available to them, regardless of caste, gender, religion, or region. Furthermore, he underscored the responsibility of government officials and stakeholders in effectively implementing various schemes, policies, and acts.

Krishna Kumar expressed his appreciation for the contributions of district-level women officers, officials, and healthcare workers in successfully organizing the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign across the district.

As part of the initiative, outstanding girls and women were honored with certificates, cash awards, and gifts for their contributions in fields such as social service, law and order, healthcare, banking, and education. Additionally, lactating mothers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and media personnel were recognized with cash prizes. The event also featured an award ceremony for winners of an essay competition and girl toppers from government schools.
