Imphal: The District Programme Officer (DPO), ICDS, Cell, Kakching under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching organised an awareness campaign on the helpline numbers on women and children as part of the 10th Edition of the“Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”(BBBP) scheme at Langmeidong Laimanai Bazar Community Hall on Tuesday.
The scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) which completed 10 years on January 22, 2025.
During the programme which was attended by over 120 people, the resource person gave awareness on Women Helpline number 181 which is a toll-free 24-hour service which women affected by violence seeking support and information can avail. Also, awareness was given on Child Helpline number 1098, a toll-free 24-hour emergency number which children in need of care & protection or by concerned adults can avail.
Awareness was also given regarding the BBBP scheme by the officials of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Cell, Kakching. Information about “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” ‘save the girl child, educate the girl child’ which aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls was also given.
Apart from it, awareness was also imparted regarding the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, 1994 which prohibits sex selection before or after conception. It was informed that the Act also regulates prenatal diagnostic techniques to detect genetic abnormalities, metabolic disorders and other conditions.
The function was also attended by Yumnam Basanta, Zilla Parishad, Waikhom as Chief Guest; Elangbam Muhendro Singh, Chairman Langmeidong Gram Panchayat as Guest of Honour and Ningthoujam Parango Singh, DPO/CDPO, Kakching as President. 58 adolescent girls were presented gifts at the function. (DIO)
