Imphal: A woman was killed on Saturday morning when suspected Kuki militants opened fire in Saiton village, Bishnupur district.
Reports indicate that Sapam Sofia Leima, wife of Sapam Dayananda Meitei, was fatally shot while working in her paddy field. The assailants reportedly descended from Sandhong Hill and fired at close range, with at least three bullet wounds found on her body.
Angry villagers initially brought her body to a nearby paramilitary camp in protest. However, with the intervention of local leaders, the body was later moved to the mortuary at RIMS Hospital.
In response to the killing, a large group of women took to the streets, blocking the Imphal-Mizoram road at several points.
This tragic incident occurred less than 48 hours after another woman was killed in Jiribam district.
