Imphal: Assam Rifles joined hands with the communities of Thoubal, Imphal West, and Kakching districts to celebrate the cherished Ningol Chakouba festival, symbolising the deep bonds of family and community. In Assam Rifles location at Chandrakhong and Singjamei, Assam Rifles personnel gathered with around 100 local residents, exchanging gifts and warm wishes in honour of this beloved tradition.
Ningol Chakouba, which translates to “the festival of sisters,” is observed on the second day of the Manipuri month of Hiyangei. During this joyous occasion, brothers invite their married sisters to their homes for a festive feast, symbolizing love, respect and family bonding. The day is marked by the exchange of gifts, delectable traditional dishes and heartfelt gatherings.
In Kakching, Assam Rifles celebrated with students and residents of the relief camp at Langmeidong Village. The event included lively cultural performances, with traditional dance, songs and instrumental music by students from Kakching. Personnel from Assam Rifles also interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Langmeidong relief camp, distributing essential items to women and children, adding warmth to their festival time.
The celebration, organised with the cooperation of local schools and relief camp authorities, highlighted Manipur’s rich cultural heritage and emphasized Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and trust within the community.
The festivities witnessed enthusiastic participation, with approximately 180 attendees at Langmeidong and 130 students in Kakching, coming together to celebrate the spirit of Ningol Chakouba.
