Guwahati: In the second wave, COVID-19 positive cases in Assam is nearing 20,000 mark with more than 3000 new cases reported on Tuesday.
Assam registered 18 new COVID-19 related deaths today. The death toll has risen to 1233.
A total of 3132 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Assam on Tuesday.
As many as 1313 cases have been detected from in and around Guwahati city.
The other districts with high COVID-19 caseloads are Dibrugarh – 228, Kamrup-Rural – 197 and Jorhat – 127.
With the detection of these 3137 fresh COVID-19 cases in Assam, the State’s active cases tally is nearing the 20,000-mark.
Assam, at present, has 19923 active COVID-19 cases.
Assam’s COVID-19 positivity rate was recorded at 5 per cent on Tuesday, which has raised serious concerns.
The 3132 cases recorded in Assam on Tuesday were detected after conducting tests of 62628 samples.
Meanwhile, in view of the rising COVID-19 cases, the Assam government has announced a night curfew, which has come into effect from Tuesday and will continue till May 1, 2021.
The Assam Government in an order directed that there shall be a total ban on the movement of individuals from 8 PM to 5 AM daily, except for some exemptions.
