Imphal: In a bid to promote forest and environmental conservation under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul, spearheaded a tree plantation drive at the High Court premises in collaboration with the Forest Department of the Government of Manipur.
The event, held on Friday, saw enthusiastic participation from the Judges, officers, and staff of the High Court of Manipur, as well as officials from the Forest Department. Saplings of Kadamb, Peepal, Nageshwar, and Bokul—species known for their ecological and medicinal value—were planted during the event.
The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative encourages individuals to plant a tree in honour of their mothers, symbolizing both environmental sustainability and a tribute to the nurturing role of mothers. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to increase green cover and address climate change.
Anurag Bajpai, IFS, PCCF & HoFF of Manipur, emphasized that similar events will be organized in District Courts and in collaboration with various organizations in the coming days. He highlighted that the plantation drive at the High Court reflects collective efforts to enhance Manipur’s green cover and underscores the commitment to protect the environment for future generations.
Under this initiative, the Forest Department of Manipur has already planted around 26 lakh saplings across various Forest Divisions in the state this year. The department aims to plant 30 lakh seedlings by September 2024 and 50 lakh seedlings by the end of March 2025.
