Imphal: In response to the recent breach in the Nambol River in Khabi, Assam Rifles, along with state officials, secured Thangtek Village and repaired infrastructure in Bishnupur district, Manipur on June 1, 2024.
The breach occurred due to the inundation of bunds and posed a significant threat to Thangtek Village and nearby areas, potentially causing severe disruption for residents and the vital life-sustaining roadways in Bishnupur district, Manipur.
Recognizing the urgency, Assam Rifles and the Bishnupur administration quickly constructed sandbag barriers to prevent the river from flooding inhabited areas. A comprehensive plan was devised on-site after an early morning inspection, involving Assam Rifles personnel, necessary equipment, and residents.
Additionally, efforts were made to enhance roadway maintenance in Thangtek Village, was severely affected by heavy rains. Assam Rifles deployed its personnel, and necessary equipment, and did strategic planning to construct a structure with the use of bamboo and sandbags in collaboration with administration and locals to repair deteriorated roads and restore accessibility for villagers.
Assam Rifles remains dedicated to serving the people of North East and will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing assistance and support wherever possible, living up to the motto of “Friends of the North East”, according to a press note from the PRO OGAR(S).
