Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Miss Anusuiya Uikey visited the College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Lamphelpat, Imphal, Thursday and inaugurated the newly developed Liquid Biofertilizer Production Unit.
The unit aims to produce environment-friendly liquid biofertilizers for use in the University and people in general.
Governor Uikey opened a Food Museum of Northeast states on the College Campus where food items from the seven northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura are being displayed.
The museum is being developed as a component of Agro-ecotourism Park on the College Campus within the University. Later, the Governor launched aerial footage of “Transformation of Wetland to Farming Land at Central Farm by Central Agricultural University, Imphal”. She also visited the Food Processing Pilot Plant of the College of Food Technology, Lamphelpat, Imphal and interacted with students and entrepreneurs.
Talking to the newsmen, the Governor said, CAU has been taking a key role in transforming the agricultural sector by introducing different techniques in agriculture and allied activities. She said different farming systems have been introduced by using biofertilizers which will be helpful to the people.
Lauding the efforts made by Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra and his team, the Governor said, that opening a food museum as a component of agro-tourism, can attract tourists from the north eastern states to Manipur.
Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Anupam Mishra, Prof. Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction & Dean, Dr. Tilak. R. Sharma, Registrar, CAU, officials and students of the University attended the events.
