Manipur: Health Minister Ranjan launches National Immunisation Day

Although India has been certified as a Polio-free country by the World Health Organisation on March 27, 2014, the government remains vigilant

Imphal:  Health & IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh on Sunday launched the National Immunization Day/Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme 2024.

The function was organised by the Directorate of Family Welfare Services, Manipur in association with the State Health Society, NHM, Manipur at the State Family Welfare Training Centre Campus, Lamphel. 

Health Minister Ranjan said that the government of India to ensure the well-being of every citizen across all age groups, immunization programs with an aggressive campaign have been initiated. And although India has been certified as a Polio-free country by the World Health Organisation on March 27, 2014, the government remains vigilant and continues with large-scale immunization efforts considering the prevalence of polio in neighbouring countries, he added.

The minister said that a coordinated effort with all the stakeholders is important to spread awareness of immunization to every household of the state as a whole. Immunization is a necessity for the future generation and the media has been taking a big role in spreading awareness so far, he added. 

Highlighting the government’s commendable service in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister underlined the success of the free COVID-19 vaccination program in the country. He also emphasized the government’s dedication to containing the pandemic by swiftly producing effective vaccines, ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens. 

The Minister stated that a vaccine saves the society at large and we as a parents need to administer vaccines on time to children. He further added that the immunization programme has been organised with the objective that no individual is left behind, even during the time of crisis.

The minister also appealed to the media fraternity to spread awareness on the ongoing pulse polio immunization programme to each household of the state to promote the health and well-being of the future generation.

Sanahanbi, Director, Health Services and Dr. Somorjit Ningombam, State Mission Director, NHM, Manipur were on the dais as President and Guest of Honour respectively. Dr. Ksh. Memcha Devi, SIO, Manipur; Dr. L. Joykumar, CMO, Imphal West; Doctors, Staff, Students and Parents attended the launching programme
