Karimganj, Assam: In a joint operation spearheaded by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Parthasarathi Mahanta and Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Protim Das, the Special Task Force (STF) in collaboration with Karimganj Police achieved a significant breakthrough today at Suprakandi, under Nilam Bazar Police Station.

At approximately 2:15 pm on January 9, 2024, law enforcement authorities successfully confiscated a substantial quantity of illicit substances. The seizure includes 5.1 kilograms of heroin, alongside 64,000 Yaba tablets. Additionally, the authorities discovered and seized four packets of foreign cigarettes.

The operation also led to the apprehension of four individuals. The seized Maruti S Presso vehicle, bearing registration number MZ 06 A 1422, was also confiscated during the operation.

Those arrested include Nur Ahmed, a resident of Patharkandi in Karimganj, as well as Zosangliani, Ramngheaka, and Lalchamliana, all hailing from Thenzawl, Mizoram.

This interception marks one of the largest drug seizures in Eastern India, primarily considering its substantial market value. The estimated worth of this seizure is at least Rs. 100 crores in the current market. The spike in prices is attributed to the continuous and effective operations coupled with the aggressive actions taken by the Assam Police.

The operation signifies a significant blow to the illicit drug trade plaguing the northeastern states, particularly Manipur and Mizoram. It stands as a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing the drug menace in the region.
