Imphal: A team of Manipur Congress urged the three Members of Parliament from Manipur to raise the Manipur crisis during the ongoing Parliament session.
Amir Hussain, Gen Secy of Congress, said the team was led by Hareshwar Goshwami, Vice President, Prof M. Ramananda Singh, and Prof. Kh. Romesh Singh.
Separate memoranda were submitted to all three MPs: RK. Ranjan Singh, Union MoS, Education, Lorho S. Pfoze, and Leishemba Sanajaoba.
During the interaction with Union Minister of State R.K. Ranjan Singh, who represents Inner Manipur, the Congress team urged him to put up the present ongoing burning issue of Manipur in the winter Parliament.
During the hour-long discussion, Dr RK Ranjan informed the Congress team that he could not bring up any matter in Parliament as a Minister of State. He, however, said that he is ready to help bring a solution to the Manipur crisis.
Outer Manipur MP, Lorho S. Pfoze, informed the team that he also wants to bring peace to Manipur. He is ready to help bring peace to the Manipur crisis. He is ready to bring out a solution to solve the problem of the Manipur crisis, it was added. The team could not meet the Rajya Sabha MP; hence, a memorandum was handed over.
The memorandum spelled out the necessity for the Manipur MPs to speak on the present burning issue of Manipur in the ongoing Parliamentary Session so that peace and normalcy can be brought back to Manipur.
It was informed that there was a sudden eruption of violence on May 3, 2023, at Kangvai, Churachandpur district, after a Tribal Solidarity March organised by the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).
Since then, Manipur has been scorching non-stop. More than 60,000 people are displaced and living in relief camps; around 200 people were either killed or missing; a number of dead bodies are still lying in various mortuaries in the state; and some 6,000 weapons were snatched or looted from police posts and battalions with several rounds of ammunition.
Even after seven long, torturous, and painful months, there is no sign of restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. Due to these happenings, Manipur is lagging behind in every aspect of development, and the griefs and miseries of the people are manifold.
The memorandum further urged the MPs to demand immediate rehabilitation and restoration of all displaced persons with adequate security and payment of suitable compensation. Two of the MPs are from the BJP, while the Outer Manipur MP is a member of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), which is a partner of the ruling BJP both in the center and in Manipur.
