Shillong: A flour mill here in Meghalaya was reduced to ashes in a fire incident that took place in the wee hours of Saturday.
No one was injured, an official said.
The fire was extinguished by Fire and Emergency Services , Indian Air Force and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after over 10 hours this noon.
Though short circuit was said to be cause of the fire, a Fire Service official said investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire incident.
Meanwhile, Paul Shylla, Divisional Commandant of Home Guards, said, “The SDRF was activated by the State Disaster Management Authority at around 2 am this morning, to respond to the fire incident in a joint effort with the Fire and Emergency Services which was already at the incident site.”
Two teams of the SDRF led by PH Khongsngi, Commandant, SDRF and B Sahkhar, Sahkhar, 2nd in command, SDRF responded to the incident.
“The SDRF concluded the 10 hour long operation at around 12 . 40 pm when the fire was completely extinguished through the collective efforts of all the agencies involved. No casualty was reported in this incident,” Shylla added.
