Guwahati: The Assam government will distribute new ration cards to 10 lakh families in December. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday.
Addressing a media meet at Janta Bhawan in Dispur, Sarma said ration card will be distributed to those who earn up to Rs 4.4 lakh annually. Earlier, ration cards were distributed to people with an annual income of Rs 2.5 lakh or less, Sarma said.
Health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to ration card holders, he said.
The state government is actively considering a proposal to make available tea at a subsidised cost of Rs100-Rs150 per kg to all ration card holders from 2024 onwards, he said.
The chief minister said the ration cards will be distributed to the beneficiaries by holding meetings in the assembly constituencies.
The government has already provided ration cards to 40 lakh families, he added.
