Shillong: The COVID-19 cases have been on a continued surge in Meghalaya with 137 new cases detected on Tuesday, taking active cases in the State up to 857.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said of the new COVID-19 cases detected on Tuesday, 111, including 62 returnees, 11 from among the armed/paramilitary forces and one police personnel were in East Khasi Hills, nine, including one from among armed/paramilitary forces in Ri-Bhoi district, seven in West Jaintia Hills district, four each in West Khasi Hills district and West Garo Hills district and one in East Jaintia Hills district.

Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the most affected district, followed by West Jaintia Hills district with 119 active cases and Ri-Bhoi district with 56 active cases as per the latest count.
Meghalaya has so far registered 15, 116 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 154 fatalities, even as 1, 07, 301 persons from outside entered the State since the onset of the pandemic till date.
Also, 34 more recoveries from the viral disease, including 26 in East Khasi Hills district, three each in Ri-Bhoi district and West Garo Hills district and two in West Jaintia Hills district took the number of recovered cases in the State so far to 14,105.
On the other hand, as on Tuesday evening, 22, 997 health care workers across the State received the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, 16, 964 received the second dose, 35, 193 frontline workers got the first shot and 23, 349 got the second jab, while 74, 560 persons from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 7, 987 were fully vaccinated with the second dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am has been continuing in the East Khasi Hills district, as one of the measures to prevent the rapid spread of the virus, even as entry of tourists to the State from outside would be stopped for 14 days from April 23 next.
All schools in the district have been closed from today for a period of 14 days, following which review of the emerging situation would be made by the authorities for taking further decision in this regard.
