Heavy rains in Sikkim, child killed, roads blocked

The child died when the house slid down with the sliding surface on Friday. Torrential rain in West Sikkim's Soreng District has resulted in damaging roads , houses, and disruption of power & water supply.

Gangtok: A 3-year-old child died following a landslide in the Lungzik gram panchayat unit.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic incident that occurred this morning. ex-gratia of Rs 4 Lakhs has been handed over to the bereaved parents through District Collector,” said CM Tamang, while condoling the death. He has assured providing Rs 5 Lakhs from CM’s Relief Fund to the family.

District Collector, Bhim Thatal, inspected various spots accompanied by his team of officers and Panchayat members.’Shifted affected families to safer places.

Restoration work is going on.Rations and tarpaulin and certain other items are being provided to the affected families in different Gram Panchayat units,’ according to Thatal. He has assured providing relief as per the norms and ex-gratia also.

In Namchi, district South Sikkim, Additional District Collector, Anant Jain, visited the area where 6 houses have been severely damaged in addition to a few more due to heavy rain for the last 48 hours. He has instructed the revenue officer to assess the damages caused to houses and Agricultural fields. The blocked roads are being cleared.
