Meghalaya: Metbah Lyngdoh elected unopposed as UDP chief for second term

Former UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh was also re-elected as the General Secretary of the party while Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh retained the working president post.

Shillong: United Democratic Party (UDP) President Metbah Lyngdoh, who is credited for doubling the tally of the party members from six in 2018 to 12 in the 2023 assembly elections, was on Saturday elected unopposed for a new term.

The former Assembly Speaker and four-time legislator from the Mairang assembly constituency under Eastern West Khasi Hills district was elected UDP president on September 11, 2019.

Former UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh was also re-elected as the General Secretary of the party while Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh retained the working president post.

Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla was also re-elected as the president of the UDP youth wing.

Lyngdoh exuded confidence that the party looks up to better performance in the future even as he praised the teamwork and contribution of all the party leaders including members.

He said that the core committee will soon sit and make plans and make decisions accordingly.

The UDP is one of the allies of the National People’s Party in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance 2.0 government in the State.
