Guwahati: In Assam, a triple murder case in Golaghat has taken a new turn as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the killings were a result of ‘love jihad’.
The victims, identified as Sanjeev Ghosh, Junu Ghosh, and Sanghamitra Ghosh, were found brutally murdered on Monday, showing signs of a vicious attack with sharp weapons.
The accused, 25-year-old Najibur Rahman Bora, who is a qualified mechanical engineer, has been arrested for the crime.
According to the Chief Minister, the accused had initially presented himself with a Hindu name on Facebook to establish a connection with the victims.
He alleged that the woman involved had been introduced to drug usage while they were together in Kolkata, and she was purportedly impregnated while under the influence of injectable drugs. The woman suffered torture during her stay at the accused’s house and later returned to her maternal home.
Najibur Rahman Bora surrendered to the police in Golaghat district, bringing his nine-month-old child with him.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, called it an “open-and-shut case” and assured that a chargesheet would be filed within 15 days to expedite the trial.
Assam’s Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, promised a thorough investigation and a comprehensive chargesheet against the perpetrator and any abettors. Previous cases and the validity of the marriage certificate presented in the earlier investigation will also be examined.
