133 people from West Bengal took refuge in Assam: Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said more than 133 people from poll-violence hit West Bengal have taken shelter in Dhubri district in the state.

“133 individuals who feared for their lives due to violence in the panchayat election in West Bengal sought refuge in the Dhubri district of Assam,” said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Assam CM said, “We have provided them with shelter in a relief camp, as well as food and medical assistance.

He also assured West Bengal BJP president Suvendu Adhikari of the extension of all humanitarian assistance to those who took refuge in the state. During the previous assembly election in West Bengal, we extended the same assistance,” the Assam CM added.

At least 19 people lost their lives in the large-scale poll violence in West Bengal during Panchayat elections in the state.
