Jalandhar: After Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) too clarified on Sunday that there was no possibility of SAD-BJP alliance in the future.

There were speculations in the wake of SAD patron Prakash Singh Badal’s demise last week that old allies might join hands again for Lok Sabha elections scheduled for next year.

However, BJP leader and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, on Friday last, had said that there will be no alliance between BJP and SAD in future.

Senior Akali Dal leader Virsa Singh Valtoha, on Sunday, in a press conference said that after the Prime Minister Narender Modi’s tributes to Prakash Singh Badal, there were speculations but the SAD would like to put a stop to such speculations.

The press conference was addressed by Mr Valtoha along with SAD’s current alliance partner Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Punjab general secretary Barinder Singh. Both the leaders said that the SAD-BSP alliance was stronger and will remain so in future also.

SAD after remaining in alliance with BJP for more than two decades, came out of alliance over the issue of farm bills two years back. It joined hands with BSP, with whom the party had an alliance in 1995-96, and fought last year state assembly elections. However, the alliance suffered badly in the wake of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) massive win with 92 seats in the 117-member assembly.
