Imphal: Manipur’s Health Minister, Dr S. Ranjan Singh, said that mental disorders increased during the post-COVID period.
Dr Ranjan was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the National Midterm CME (Continuing Medical Education) of APSI, organised under the aegis of the Addiction Psychiatry Society of India (APSI) at the Jubilee Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS, here on Wednesday.
Minister Ranajn said that young people today have derailed their careers by using drugs. Drug addiction is a menace in the state. The government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, has launched a ‘war on drugs’. This is a holistic step to check the threat, which we all should extend our support for, he added.
He also informed that the state is rich in many sectors, which are not acknowledged by other states. The minister invited the participants, particularly those who are from outside the state, to visit the historic and interesting palaces of the state. He also mentioned that there are many places in the state that have a connection with the history of India, the minister maintained.
Speaking as president and director of RIMS, Prof. H. Priyosakhi Devi, said that psychiatry is a big subject. It will be very helpful to have organised such an occasion in the state. There has been a trend seen in recent days that the use of alcohol by women has increased. The abuse of substances will be checked by organising such occasions, she added.
Prof. Atul Ambedkar, Secretary General, Addiction Psychiatric Society of India (APSI), Dr. Nepram Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent RIMS, Prof. R.K. Lenin Singh, and Dr. S. Gojendro Singh were also among those who graced the occasion on the dais. Experts, delegates from across the country, and others attended the event.
