Lucknow: Confident of its success in Assam assembly elections, the Congress party is all set to replicate its Assam poll campaign experiment in Uttar Pradesh poll, due early 2022.

Congress sources said here on Sunday that party high command has received positive feedback on the performance by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his team in Assam elections. Baghel is likely to get a similar responsibility in UP as well and the announcement is likely to be made soon.

“The next stop for the Team Chhattisgarh will be Uttar Pradesh if things go as per plan,” a senior party leader said.

The party had experimented by sending a chief minister as a special observer to oversee the poll campaign in another state and so far the reports from the ground zero suggest that the experiment was quite successful. Parliamentary advisor Rajesh Tiwari formed the core advisory group for the Assam poll preparations.

Sources said that the Assam experiment could be repeated in Uttar Pradesh as well.

With the UP Assembly election due in early 2022, CM Baghel is likely to get a similar responsibility in UP where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is general secretary in charge. The strategy to hold Priyanka’s meetings in Upper Assam to woo tea workers worked well for the party’s campaign. The appointment of Rajesh Tiwari as AICC secretary for UP last week is being seen as a step in this direction.
