Kamareddy: Farmers in Kamareddy district on Friday observed bandh protesting against the Master Plan of Kamareddy MunicipalCorporation.
Political parties including Congress, BJP have already expressed their support for the bandh call given by the Farmers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC).
Local farmers, BJP leaders asked the businessmen to close down their establishments. Keeping in view of the bandh call byFarmers’ JAC, education establishments declared holiday today.
As a preventive measure Police Kamareddy Constituency incharge Katipalli Venkatataramana Reddy was taken into custody from his house and shifted to the Police station.
On Thursday, farmers from eight surrounding villages of Kamareddy including Lingapur, Ilchipur, Adloor,Tekiryal, Adloor, Yallareddy tried to lay siege to the Collectorate.
BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao extended support by participating in the agitation.
Fearing that this two acre land would be taken over by the government for Industrial zone, P Ramulu of Adloorvillage committed suicide at his house on Tuesday night.
The family members of Ramulu attempted to hold a protest in front of Kamareddy Municipal Office on Wednesday but they were not allowed.
On Thursday a large number of farmers held agitation in front of the Collectorate.
In a letter, addressed to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC)President A Reventh Reddy, MP warned the government not to implement the MasterPlan of Kamareddy Municipality without the consent of the farmers and stakeholders.
Reddy said farmers were losing highly valuable agricultural lands that give two crops every year and how can the government include such fertile lands for non-agriculture purposes.
Meanwhile, Municipal Administration and IT Minister KT Rama Rao said the Master Plan is still in the draft stage. The government would make changes to the draft and any requests and objections would be taken into consideration if the farmers approached the government directly.
Speaking to media at BJP state headquarter, Hyderabad, BJP Backward Class Morcha National President Dr K Laxman, MP (Rajya Sabha) said that farmers agitation in Kamareddy is the beginning of the downfall of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Minister K T Rama Rao taking the death of a farmer simply. The decision on the Master Plan should be taken once after conducting grama Sabhas instead of backdoor.
He said that the BJP will intensify its fight on public issues in the next three months. Dr Laxman made it clear that the party will fight on farmers’ problems from village to village.
Stating that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will release a Charge Sheet against TRS government in April, Laxman said, the party would move forward with the slogan of KCR Hatho-Telangana Bachao as the goal of Mission 90.
