15 acres of poppy plantation destroyed in Churachandpur

Ten mature stems of poppy with pods and about 40 kg of fertiliser were also seized as evidence.

Imphal: A team of Churachandpur District Police led by the SP along with officials of the District administration, women police personnel and IRB Thursday carried out destruction of illegal poppy plantation at the hill range of D. Lhangjol areas.

The team destroyed the cultivated poppy land, which was estimated to be 15 (fifteen) acres in size and worth around Rs. 90 (ninety) lakhs.

Ten mature stems of poppy with pods and about 40 kg of fertiliser were also seized as evidence. 

A case has been registered at Churachandpur PS for further investigation. Later on, the Chief of D.Lhangjol village, Letkholal Khongsai, was also arrested at around 4:50 p.m. from the Tuibuong area. 

Secondly, in continuation of the destruction of poppy cultivation at Selsi Hill Range in Kangpokpi district, a team led by SP, Kangpokpi, along with NAB and the Forest Department, carried out the destruction of poppy cultivated areas on December 29.

The team destroyed about 25 (twenty-five)  acres of poopy cultivated areas, according to a press note from the Manipur Police.
