Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Padmini Singla on Friday said that an error-free electoral roll is the prerequisite for a free and fair election.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a drive to link Aadhaar with Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to validate entries in the electoral roll, authenticate identity of voters, and check whether someone is registered in the same constituency more than once or in multiple constituencies, she said.
While asserting that an error free electoral roll was the prerequisite for a free and fair election, the CEO said, “As a responsible citizen, least that each one of us can do is to join the process of purification of electoral roll initiated by the Election Commission of India and link the Aadhaar with
the EPIC.”
She also informed that the ECI has made another reform by giving opportunity to youths aged 17 plus years to apply in advance for voter enrolment and they do not have to wait for attaining 18 years of age on 1st January of a year for enrolment.
The CEO was speaking at a one-day awareness programme on ECI-mandated linking of Aadhaar with Voter ID cards (EPIC) and on registration process for enrolment in electoral roll at Don Bosco College, Jollang near here.
State Nodal Officer, Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), Lod Takkar (APCS), in his opening speech, said that this very important awareness program is to inform about new initiative of the ECI to link Aadhaar with EPIC and to explain the process of registration to the new voters. He requested all to inform their family, friends, and relatives about the liking process.
