Imphal: The Central Government Thursday appointed Prof T Tirupati Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University as the new Chancellor of Manipur University.
The Manipur University, which was currently administered by Jarnail Singh, former Chief Secretary of Manipur, had been in turmoil following the appointment of Adya Prashad Pandey as VC, who was accused of administrative and financial irregularities by students and a few teaching communities.
“The President of India in his capacity as Visitor of Manipur University, under the powers conferred under Statute 1 of the Manipur University Act, 2005, has been please to appoint Prof T Tirupati Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University as the Chancellor of Manipur University for a term of five years,” said a statement by Ministry of Education, Department Higher Education, Government of India.
