K. Meghajit Singh, Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly said in a notification issued here on Friday that the Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata has accepted the merger of five Members of Legislature Party of JD(U) to the Legislature Party of BJP in the Manipur Legislative Assembly under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

The five members were Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, of Thangmeiband , Ngursanglur Sanate, of Tipaimukh, Md Achab Uddin of Jiribam , Thangjam Arunkumar, of Wangkhei and L M. Khaute of Churachandpur.

BJP which won 32 seats has now 37 seats in the 60 member House.

Last week, the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) had suffered the ‘final’ blow in Arunachal Pradesh as the lone MLA of the JD(U) from Itanagar constituency, Techi Kaso, has switched over to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This ‘latest’ development came days after the Bihar Chief Minister severed ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to realign with the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and install a new government in the state. With agency inputs
