Bengaluru: An invitation sent to Karnataka Congress leaders including former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a pro-China event has sparked a row with the BJP lapping it up.

The invitation mentions Siddaramaiah as one of the chief guests along with HC Mahadevappa at the pro-China seminar along with Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong and Consul General of China in Mumbai Kong Xianhua.

Taking potshots at Congress leaders, BJP National General Secretary and MLA CT Ravi asked the main opposition party whether their participation in the event is a part of the MoU signed by Rahul Gandhi with the Chinese Communist Party.

“If anyone had doubts that Congress works for China, this will clear them. Why should the Congress side with China if America is interfering in its internal affairs? Is the MoU signed by Rahul Gandhi with the Chinese Communist Party the reason behind this support to China?” he asked.

Ravi also posted a controversial photo of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi along with the Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a reprisal, Siddaramaiah expressed surprise over his name mentioned in the invitation as he had declined to participate in the event being organised by India-China Friendship Association here on Sunday. “I declined the invitation as my agenda of my party’s are in variance with the event,” he said.

The seminar is titled ‘Interference of US imperialism in the internal affairs of People’s Republic of China’.
