Bishnupur: Food Safety Administration, Bishnupur Friday organized a Walkathon and Eat Right Mela under the theme ‘Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Sustainable’ at Kyamba Ningshing Shanglen in Bishnupur. The inaugural function of the mela was attended by MLA Oinam AC, Irengbam Nalini Devi; Chairperson, Bishnupur Municipal Council, Laishram Maniyaima Singh and Chief Medical Officer, Bishnupur, Dr L. Raichandra, as praesidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Irengbam Nalini Devi lauded women entrepreneurs and other womenfolk of the State for their crucial contribution to development. She also encouraged healthy eating by stating that health is the most precious possession of every individual. Irengbam Nalini Devi later inspected the food stalls which were being set up during the mela by various entrepreneurs.
Earlier in the morning, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram flagged off the Walkathon event from the Mini Secretariat complex. The walkathon witnessed participation from school students and local clubs of the district.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the walkathon, Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram emphasised the significance of a balanced diet while informing that Eat Right Mela aimed at promoting awareness of safe and healthy eating through various engaging activities.
Today’s Eat Right Mela was organized as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Apart from food stalls, a painting competition, panel discussion, cultural programmes and musical concerts were the other major attractions of the one-day mela.
The Eat Right Movement is an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to transform the country’s food system in order to ensure safe, healthy, and sustainable food for all Indians.
