Hyderabad: Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) a registered non-profit organization and actively operating Vuppala Venkaiah Memorial Blood Bank, has been organizing around 20 blood donation camps here and contributing blood to 3,000 Thalassemia patients every month free of cost.
TSCS has been awarded the Blood Band Award by Telangana Minister for Health T Harish Rao recently, for outstanding support for blood donations in the state.
TSCS by virtue of its need, frequency of camps, and a number of donors in every camp has won the award in the private blood bank category.
In a release here on Friday, TSCS Vice-President Ratnavalli Kottapalli and Joint Secretary Aleem Baig, said they have been organizing around 20 blood donation camps every month in Hyderabad as Thalassemia patients need fresh blood every 20 days.
On average, around 100-200 donors participate in a camp. Even if the blood group is the same, blood can be transfused only when various other parameters match.
This facility is not available in all places and this is where TSCS laboratories which are well equipped to conduct such tests are bridging the gap.
Over 3000 patients need blood transfusions every month and TSCS blood donations camps are contributing their best to meet the requirements, they added.
TSCS is the World’s biggest society serving more than 3,000 Thalassemia Children with modern equipment & specialist doctors, free of cost in Hyderabad and with an aim to make “Thalassemia Free Telangana”.
It has recently opened its first branch in Khammam with well-experienced medical staff to support Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia patients in the region and nearby districts.
