Truck mows down five-morning walkers in Assam’s Sipajhar

Guwahati: A speeding truck mowed down five-morning walkers in Assam’s Darrang district on Tuesday, officials said.

The mishap occurred in the early hours of the day in the College Chowk area of Sipajhar, a town about 50 km away from the state capital Guwahati.

Two others seriously injured in the accident have been shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Three of the victims died on the spot while two others breathed their last on the way to the hospital.

Sipajhar BJP MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi visited GMCH and  said the number of injured could be more. 

Police said the driver must have lost control of the truck and ran over the people before hitting a tree. The driver is absconding.  With agency inputs
