Myanmar seeks return of cops who fled across Indian border

Nay Pyi Taw: Myanmar authorities have asked India to return several police officers who had crossed the border seeking refuge after refusing to carry out the orders of the military junta.

According to reports, several police officers and their families from Myanmar had crossed the border in recent days seeking refuge.

“In a letter written to the Indian authorities, Myanmar asked for the return of these officers and their families “in order to uphold friendly relations”, BBC reported.

Myanmar has been gripped by mass protests and strikes following a military coup last month.

Security forces have taken a hard line against the demonstrations and at least 55 people have been killed in these protests so far.
