Imphal: Governor La Ganesan on Saturday wished one of the top novelists and a member of the Royal family of Manipur, Maharaj Kumari Binodini on her 100th birth anniversary.
MK Binodini Devi, also known as Princess Wangolsana, was conferred Padma Shri in 1976, Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979 for her magnum opus – ‘Boro Saheb Ongbi Sanatombi’.
She was also conferred with various awards – Jamini Sundar Guha Gold Medal in 1966 for her first book on short stories ‘Nungairakta Chandramukhi’, and best story award at the 9th Manipuri State Film Award for the movie ‘Nangna Kappa Pakchade’, posthumously in 2014.
In his message, the Governor remembered that Binodini’s contribution in the fields of literature and films are highly creditable and praiseworthy, that some of her stories are included in the school and college curriculum today.
She is considered as one of the icons in heralding a literature movement in Manipur and inspires many in the field, La Ganeswan added.
