Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy size will be reduced to six cars in Guwahati city and there will be no felicitation for him and other ministers at any official function, the state cabinet decided on Thursday.

“To end public inconvenience, we decided at the Assam Cabinet to reduce CM carcade size and stop halting traffic for long during CM’s travel,” Sarma said after the cabinet meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Sarma, also decided to reduce the number of cars in the chief minister’s convoy while traveling outside Guwahati. The CM’s convoy will consist of 12 cars, excluding the escort and pilot cars, outside the Guwahati city limits.

Sarma has been batting for reducing the number of cars in the chief minister’s convoy for public convenience. He had also urged the MLAs and MPs and BJP leaders to give away their Personal Security Officers, saying having personal security was the culture of the Congress and not that of the BJP.

Among other key decisions at the cabinet meeting, it was decided that movements of ambulances will get precedence over the CM’s entourage. The state cabinet has also decided to stop felicitations for the chief minister and other ministers at official meetings.
