Guwahati, Jan 17 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that every government department of the state will be turned into an `E-office’ to alleviate the hardship citizens face to visit government offices.
“We will try to make every official record digital so that we can get rid of huge piles of physical files which were staked in various government departments. It will be our effort to turn every department into an e-office,” Sarma said, reiterating his commitment before May 10, 2021 the government will clear more than 1 lakh files pending in various government departments.
Talking to state government employees of the Assam secretariat in a bid to make governance people-friendly by migrating to e-governance under ‘Project Sadbhawana’, Sarma said after the completion of Project Sadbhawana, the state government will introduce an e-file system in the State Secretariat.
“We plan to kick off the project tentatively by November 10. People will be able to share details like their file numbers/subject/department at the portals of Assam government. The project will alleviate the hardships of citizens as they do not have to visit government offices,” he said.
The chief minister said that M/S KPMG has undertaken a study to understand why the citizens come to the Secretariat.
At present 300-700 people visit the Secretariat on a given day. This number is a conservative figure due to Covid-19 pandemic and the actual number is likely to be substantially higher.
The chief minister also said feedback from these visitors revealed that the top few reasons for the visits are a follow-up on the older bills, follow-up on the older files, communication of pension provincialisation, employment and service matters, etc.
