London: Queen Elizabeth has cancelled her traditional Christmas plans at her Sandringham estate in eastern England amid a spike in Omicron cases in the UK.

According to a Fox News report, the monarch, 95, will instead celebrate the holiday at Windsor Castle, west of London, and be joined by members of the royal family.

Buckingham Palace said the queen’s choice “reflects a precautionary approach” due to a surge in Omicron cases across the country.

This is the second time in a row that the queen has cancelled her traditional Christmas plans.

Before the pandemic, the royal family used to spend the holidays with the queen at the estate and open their presents on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Day, the family would attend church services at St. Mary’s Magdalene Church and then go to Sandringham for lunch and other festivities.
