Pak EC postpones poll in KP’s Bannu district

According to a statement by ECP, "The Deputy Commissioner Bannu and District Police Officer Bannu have inquired and reported the incident of abduction of police personnel, polling staff (including females) and snatching of different polling bags/materials at different polling stations of Tehsil Baka Khel in the district of Bannu."

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday postponed the local government polls in Bakakhel tehsil of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a day after some masked armed men attacked four polling stations and snatched the polling material.

According to a statement by ECP, “The Deputy Commissioner Bannu and District Police Officer Bannu have inquired and reported the incident of abduction of police personnel, polling staff (including females) and snatching of different polling bags/materials at different polling stations of Tehsil Baka Khel in the district of Bannu.”

“The new date for the polling in Bakakhel will be announced later,” it said.

ARY News quoted sources as saying that several masked armed men had arrived in 50 to 60 vehicles on Saturday late night.

The ECP has declared all four polling stations in the Bannu district as ‘extremely sensitive’.

The Chief Election Commissioner has directed for a thorough investigation of the incidents in Bakakhel and formed a three-member inquiry committed headed by special secretary Zafar Iqbal, ARY News.

The inquiry committee will be submitting its report within seven days, the ECP added.
