Srinagar: An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said.

They said the gunfight erupted at the Check Cholan area of the district when joint teams of security forces cordoned the area following an input about militant presence.

Police said the operation is in progress.

“..Encounter has started at Check Cholan area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. ..” police tweeted.

Sources said two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
