Mumbai, Dec 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday signed an order of suspension of former Mumbai police commissioner Parambir Singh from the services on charges of indiscipline and irregularities, following registration of alleged cases of extortion and atrocity against him.
Upon failing to appear before the investigation agency despite issuance of several summons to IPS official, the Home department had constituted an inquiry committee, under the chairmanship of additional chief secretary (Planning) Debashish Chakraborty, to investigate the alleged violation of Civil Services rules by Parambir Singh.
In October, Chakraborty had submitted a report recommending a departmental inquiry against Singh.
Singh had levelled corruption charges against former Home minister Anil Deshmukh. He had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that Deshmukh had asked suspended police officer Sachin Vaze to extort Rs 100 crore monthly from hotels and bar owners in the city.
On Monday last, Singh, who had been absconding for a while after levelling corruption allegations against Deshmukh, finally appeared before the one-man Justice Chandiwal Commission, which is probing the extortion allegation made by him against the former Home minister.
